During rodeo performances at the Fort Worth, San Angelo, San Antonio, Houston, and Austin Stock Shows, youth contestants attempt to catch a calf. Students who catch a calf are awarded a certificate that allows them to purchase an animal to show the following year.

Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo
Entries are OPEN
The calf scramble is held during 23 rodeo performances. There will be 20 participants and 10 winners per performance. Each of the 230 winners will be issued a $500 purchase certificate to use towards the purchase of a registered beef or dairy heifer.
San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo
Entry Deadline: January 1, 2026
The calf scramble will have 4 go-rounds during each performance in February. There will be 20 participants in each go-round with the top 4 will advance to compete in the scholarship scramble on April 11th.
San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo
Entry Deadline: December 1, 2025
There will be 17 performances during the rodeo, plus a Finals. There will be 24 contestants and 12 winners per performance.
Houston Stock Show & Rodeo
Entry Deadline: December 1, 2025
The calf scramble is every night from March 2 - March 20. There will be 30 contestants and 15 winners each night. Contestants that catch a calf is awarded a $2,000 certificate to purchase a registered beef heifer or market steer to show at the Houston Stock Show the following year.
Rodeo Austin
Entry Deadline: December 15, 2025
The calf scramble is limited to the first 168 participants. The preliminary rounds will take place on March 7th. Females and males will compete seperately. The top three from each heat who catch a calf will advance to the Finals on March 21.
